World-class soccer camp comes to Moruya

BUDDING soccer stars of the Far South Coast have been skilled up by some of the sport’s best after a special coaching weekend this month. The ACT’s Coerver Coaching, in conjunction with
Moruya Football Club, held its first-ever Moruya school holiday training camp on October 6 and 7 at Gundary Oval. Players from Moruya and the surrounding region who attended the camp were exposed to nine hours split into three sessions, based on the Coerver Coaching pyramid of player development. The camp was run by ACT technical director and head coach educator in the Asia Pacific region, Adrian Haynes. Mr Haynes has been a Coerver coach for 15 years and has led tours in Japan, Singapore, Spain, Italy and England.

“I was very excited to come to Moruya in the first weekend of October to work with local players,” Mr Haynes said. “My family lives in Narooma, so I have a very close affinity with the South
Coast region. “I am very passionate about ensuring that players from regional areas are afforded the opportunity to take part in professional-level coaching and not miss out because they do not live in larger metropolitan areas. “I have dedicated the last 30 years of my life to coaching football, with the last 15 being professionally with Coerver. “I have been extremely fortunate to travel the world with my coaching, working in numerous countries. “I have been able to build my own knowledge of youth development after visiting and working at academies in some of the world’s largest clubs. “Real Madrid in Spain, A.S. Roma in Italy, Chelsea, Tottenham and Fulham in England, Tokyo Verdi and Gamba Osaka in Japan are just some of the clubs I have been
involved with in their youth development programs. “Coerver Coaching would like to make a long-term commitment to the players and families of the region and help with junior development
for years to come.”
